Wayfarer Sunglasses then and now

Millions of people all across the globe must have used Ray Ban wayfarer sunglasses but very few of them know the reason why these were designed. The wayfarer design was introduced way back in 1920s when an American lieutenant commented that his eyes were severely affected when he was in a war. After the comments of the lieutenant Ray Ban decided to produce a pair of sunglasses which provide optimum protection to the eyes of soldiers and this is how Ray Ban wayfarers were invented. For the next many years these sunglasses were confined to the army but within years it became a big hit in terms of fashion as well.

The wayfarers first came into the fashion scene in 1952. At that time these sunglasses were made using plastic which made them very popular instantly. At that time the wayfarers were the undisputed king of the sunglasses market as there was a huge demand for them. Even big stars like Audrey Hepburn were seen sporting wayfarer sunglasses in her movies. It is believed that a particular style spreads even faster than wild fire. But in the late 60s the style faded just like any other fashion which has a certain life. It was believed that wayfarer sunglasses were a thing of the past but in the late 70s certain brands started producing wayfarers once again.
